 About

thumb Chris Teaching Option 1The Snow Pond Art Song Institute is a workshop for advanced students to focus on the study and performance of art songs in a serene and inspiring location.  At SPASI, students will have the opportunity to explore and strengthen their skills, learn from experts, and collaborate with peers to understand how their individuality informs their own artistry.  Student singers and pianists will work together with faculty to engage in creative, inclusive, and dynamic programming, and to find relevant, modern, and global pathways in the immense and ever-evolving world of song.

Overview

The Snow Pond Art Song Intensive will consist of 8 student singers and 4 student pianists who will be selected to study art song repertoire of their choosing during this 10-day workshop. Each participant will apply by submitting a video audition, and a proposal detailing a recital set of 4-6 pieces that they would like to focus on during their time at SPASI.  SPASI will provide students with voice lessons, style and diction coaching, somatics work, and acting for the recital stage. There will be in-person masterclasses with the faculty as well as virtual masterclasses on specific topics. Student pianists will also receive coachings, play for voice lessons and performance classes, and be paired with particular singers for the final performance. The workshop will culminate in a recital performance that features solo pieces from each of the participant’s repertoire. Students will be selected by audition to learn and grow in the beautiful and inspiring landscape of the Snow Pond Center for the Arts where we will provide: high caliber instruction, opportunities for collaboration, a safe and inclusive environment for artistic experimentation, and be encouraged to explore both canonical and new and diverse repertoire.
